Home > Resources > Child Support Calculator The Child Support Guidelines are the rules for calculating the amount one parent must pay to the other parent to help support their child or children. The Guidelines are used by judges to determine the amount of child support due. This child support calculator lets you see how the Child Support Guidelines could be applied by a judge to set the amount of child suppport under an order in British Columbia. The formula in this calculator is based upon the paying parent's gross income and the number of children eligible for child support. The Child Support Guidelines were amended on May 1, 2006. The original Guidelines from 1997 have been updated based on 2004 federal-provincial-territorial taxation and benefit levels. The changes to the child support amounts are consistent with the Guidelines principle that the amounts should reflect the payor's ability to pay. These changes do not affect how FMEP enforces your current maintenance order or agreement. In order for these changes to affect you, a variation order must be obtained from the court. For more information, please see the Department of Justice's Federal Child Support Guidelines. |
